The Pearl of Mexico

Guadalajara is one of Mexico’s main metropolises and a hub of economic and cultural development for the country. It also represents Mexico internationally as the birthplace of mariachi, tequila, and charrería. It hosts Latin America’s most important film festival and the world’s most important Spanish-language book fair (and the second largest book fair globally).

For our industry, Guadalajara is also the cradle of great animators who have set a standard, beginning with the late Rigo Mora and the renowned Guillermo del Toro, as well as the group of filmmakers associated with them who continue to amaze us every couple of years with new stop-motion productions. These works are recognized, celebrated, and awarded worldwide, with the creators collectively known as "The Guadalajara School."

Moreover, some of Mexico’s most important animation and video game studios are based in Guadalajara. They provide creative services to the global industry and international networks such as Disney EMEA, Discovery Kids, Warner Animation, among others, while also investing in the development of original intellectual properties.

On another front, Guadalajara’s consistent commitment to the tech industry has paid off, making it a prominent location due to the large number of technology companies that have set up there. This effort has been further strengthened by the inauguration of the first stage of Ciudad Creativa Digital Guadalajara, which will also host the majority of our festival’s activities.

The screenings will take place in the Guillermo del Toro Theater at the Cabañas Museum, located in the city center (just five minutes on foot from Ciudad Creativa Digital), and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
