The pearl of Mexico

Jalisco is one of the most emblematic states in Mexico: a hub of economic and cultural development for the country and an international benchmark, being the birthplace of mariachi, tequila, and charrería, home to the most important Film Festival in Latin America, and the most important Book Fair in the Spanish-speaking world (and the second largest globally).

For our industry, Jalisco is also the cradle of great animators who have set a precedent, starting with the late Rigo Mora and the great Guillermo del Toro, as well as the group of filmmakers linked to them who, every couple of years, surprise us again with new stop-motion productions that are recognized, celebrated, and awarded worldwide—earning them the title of "The Guadalajara School" (La Escuela de Guadalajara).

Furthermore, some of the most important animation and video game studios in Mexico are based in Jalisco, providing creative services to the global industry and international networks such as Disney EMEA, Discovery Kids, and Warner Animation, among others, without neglecting the development of new intellectual properties.

On the other hand, Jalisco's constant commitment to the tech industry has paid off, making it a benchmark due to the large number of technology companies that have established themselves there. This effort receives a new boost following the inauguration of the first stage of Ciudad Creativa Digital Guadalajara, which is also the place where the vast majority of our festival's activities will take place.

For its part, the Casa del Autor Zapopan, the main venue of the festival in that municipality, receives residents from all over the world every year and is becoming an international benchmark in sequential storytelling. Zapopan is also home to Ingenia, a gamer and digital culture center where we will hold some activities as well.

Screenings will be held in the Guillermo del Toro room at the Museo Cabañas, nestled in the City Center (a five-minute walk from Ciudad Creativa Digital), and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997.
