One of the things we seek to achieve with many of our open calls is for them to be more than just a competition, but rather a learning strategy that benefits those who participate, whether they win or not.

We know that simply creating a comic or a children's book, or preparing a pitch bible for a project, is in itself a formative and learning experience. In the case of Paal, however, we complement it with some additional activities: mentoring sessions with artists or authors who have experience publishing children's books, and the finalists' pitch, which is always accompanied by feedback from the members of the jury.

Every year, in the case of Paal, we also hold a couple of online talks with artists, editors, or experts in children's audiences who can provide tips, tools, and even career guidance for those interested in the field.
