This year, several Mexican creators have been selected in different categories, and we want to highlight them in our blog to keep a record of each of their achievements.

In the Official Short Film Competition, which competes for the festival’s highest honor, the Annecy Cristal, Canción de noche has been selected. The film was directed by Karla Castañeda and also featured the participation of acclaimed producer, director, and animator Luis Téllez.

In the festival’s new Midnight Shorts section, focused on horror, crime, science fiction, and fantasy works with a dark tone, the short film Calm, el último cuento de Horacio Quiroga, directed by María Ruísánchez and Álvaro León, has been selected. This is a co-production between Spain, Argentina, and Mexico, with our dear Asdrubal Rivera from Sísmica Studio serving as co-producer. The short film was made possible thanks to support from the Ibermedia Next program, which we helped promote and develop as part of the Ibero-American Animation League.

In addition, El Canto del Jaguar, directed by Antonia Sofía Silva Alvarado from UNAM, has been selected in the Graduation Films category.

In the Commissioned Films section, several Mexican productions were selected. First is the short film Broken Promises, created for the video game Little Nightmares, directed by Sofía Carrillo and Juan José Medina and produced by El Taller del Chucho (you can watch a teaser of the short film on YouTube).

Also in this category is the music video Traffic Lights by Flea featuring Thom Yorke, directed and animated by Mexican visual artist Nespy 5euro, as well as the animated television commercial Teletón cambia todo, directed by Mario Muñoz.

To these selected works in the various categories, we should also add the projects participating in the MIFA pitches. On one hand, the feature film project Luces de Abril, directed by Jorge Rojo, has been selected to participate in the MIFA Pitches. Finally, in the Ibero-American Animation League Partners Pitches, The Forrest Owl, a television project by Ángel Osorio, will also be presented. The project was a finalist in Ideatoon 2025, received the Ventana Sur Award, and will now be showcased at Annecy.

Congratulations to all those selected!
