My Brother the Monster Arrives on Once Niños
| Bitácora | News |
Mexican animation is celebrating the arrival of the series My Brother the Monster on Mexico’s Canal Once, produced by Gasolina Studios (Mexico) and Arcana Studio (Canada). The series has also reached an agreement with Pink Parrot Media, which now represents it internationally.
My Brother the Monster is closely connected to the Pixelatl community, as it was created by Ernesto Molina, presented and was a finalist at Ideatoon, and the option was acquired a few months later by Gasolina Studio. Since then, year after year, we have witnessed its progress, which Ernesto and Joe Alanís (executive producer) shared at the festival and other events: from securing development support, producing the pilot, and the agreement with Arcana, to each stage of production, which was finally completed just over a year ago. Then came the process of securing distribution deals, culminating in what we celebrate today: its arrival on our country’s small screen.
For those unfamiliar, the series tells the story of Mombou, “a little furry ball from space,” who enters Petunia’s life and is immediately adopted by her, discovering together that “the craziest and most adorable friendship can emerge in the most unexpected places.”
A milestone for the Mexican creative community
As Joe Alanís explains in the official series release, this is a milestone in national animation, as it is the first animated series to receive funding from the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE) for its development and production by Gasolina Studios, and the first animated co-production between Mexico and Canada.
Below we share some lines from the official release by Gasolina Studios and Once Niñas y Niños to highlight some aspects that make this production special.
This project sets an important precedent for the industry in Mexico, capable of producing original content “with international quality and ambition, able to connect with audiences anywhere in the world.”
We are very happy and proud that the series can be seen in Mexico, and we continue to celebrate everyone involved in this important milestone for our entire community.
