Alberto Vázquez is a prominent animation director, illustrator and comic artist born in A Coruña in 1980. His talent and creativity have been reflected in more than 25 books that have been published in various countries, such as Spain, France, Italy, Brazil, Turkey, Slovenia, China and Korea. In addition, his illustrations have been published in newspapers and print media around the world.
One of Alberto Vázquez's most outstanding achievements is his foray into the field of animation. He has written and directed several short films including "Birdboy", "Unicorn Blood", "Settings" and "Homeless Home", all based on his comics. His first animated feature film was titled "Psiconauts, the forgotten children" and he served as director, screenwriter and art director of the film, which is based on his homonymous graphic novel published by the Astiberri publishing house. This film produced in A Coruña was released in 2016 and received recognition and praise both nationally and internationally.
In 2022, Alberto Vázquez premiered his second animated feature film, entitled "Unicorn Wars", at the Annecy Animation Festival. The film was also part of the official section of the Sitges Festival and has been released in countries such as Japan, the US, France or Germany, among many others.
Throughout his career, Alberto Vázquez has won four Goya Awards, Spain's prestigious film awards. In addition, he has won more than 100 international awards at festivals such as Annecy, where he received the Jury Prize, and the Best Film award at the Stuttgart festival. His works have been exhibited at renowned festivals around the world, including Cannes, San Sebastián, European Film Awards, Toronto, Clermont-Ferrand, Animafest Zagreb, Pixelatl, Sitges and the César Awards, among others.
Currently, Alberto Vázquez is preparing his third feature film, entitled "Decorado", which is based on his short film of the same name.
