Creative Partners

Hobby Creative Studio is the creative partner for Pixelatl Festival 2024.

The creative partner, based on the Pixelatl Manifesto published each year, creates an animated promotional that also defines the festival’s the visual concept of the festival.

This year, the animated teaser also marks the directorial debut of Humberto Cervera Barón, who also wrote the story and the script.

The production of the short film involved other prominent artists from the community, such as Ronin Studio, who handled the production design and art direction, and Bakemono, responsible for the musical scoring.

More About Hobby

Hobby is a 2D, 3D, and Stop Motion animation studio that combines all three techniques. It was founded by Salvador Ríos de Dios and Samuel Méndez, and has been in the market for 15 years. They have established themselves working for the advertising industry with national and international clients. Based in Guadalajara, they also have offices in Mérida, Querétaro, and Seattle.

The promotional short film for Pixelatl is Hobby Creative Studio's second original piece, following La Canción del Lago, a short film that had a successful run at international festivals last year, including a special alternative screening at Annecy, in the year Mexico was the guest of honor.

It is rare in Stop Motion to have the opportunity to work on sets inspired by or based on Mexico, Salvador explained, we are proud and excited to show through this piece and our work a vision of Mexico that is rarely seen in animation and even less in stop motion.

The Stop Motion piece includes three sets and seven original puppets, and for the final musical chorus, it features 19 distinct voices, all from our community.
