She graduated in Audiovisual Arts from the University of Guadalajara. She has won 2 Ariel Awards for Best Animated Short Film with Prita Noire and Cerulia. The artist's short films have attracted the attention of festivals such as Sundance, the Annecy International Animation Festival, and various fantasy film festivals, earning her several awards. She has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscar) since 2018. She is also an active member of the Mexican Academy of Cinematic Arts and Sciences (AMACC). With La bruja del fósforo paseante, Sofía ventured into fiction short films, which was nominated for an Ariel Award for Best Short Film in 2020.
